Hi,

I'm a student in an enginneering school, and as part of an assignment on new technologies, I'm doing a research on iPhone applications. I was wondering if you could specify the sources of your xls file data. Is it published by Apple ? besides, what does the column "Popularity" stand for ? is it related to the number of downloads for each application ?
It would help me a lot if you could answer my questions !

thanks !

Hi Heger,

The source is raw data from the App Store itself- I have written a small application that scrapes the data using HTTP and puts it into a CSV file.

The popularity data is provided by Apple, but they don't disclose specifically how the value is generated. It does appear to be related to downloads, but I'm not sure specifically how.

HTH!

Best,

Charles
