I recently reformatted and cleaned up my home machine, and as a part of the reinstall of various apps, I went to gallery.live.com to get trusty old Onfolio
. When I perused the comments from users of the Gallery, there were some positive, and some negative. A number of the negative comments had to do with installation problems specifically on Vista. Of course I know that we worked _really_ hard to make Onfolio work on Vista, so I was bummed to read that.
So I figured, why not take a quick peak to see what could be going on. Here's the scoop:
1) In the last Beta of Onfolio, we added a script custom action that does a simple date calculation. I don't even remember why we ended up doing this, but in case you're a Windows Installer expert, I know this is quite distasteful.
2) These script custom actions get blocked by virus scanners, are susceptible to problems with runtime registration, etc... The long and the short of it is that the install can now fail because of problems with the jscript runtime.
And this brings me to 2739. That is an error that a jscript custom action failed to run during installation. For users that are running into this, there are 2 recommendations:
0) Make sure to disable any virus checking software
Try installing Onfolio
1) At the run prompt, type regsvr32 jscript.dll
Try installing Onfolio
2) Rename the registry key HKCU\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{ F414C260-6AC0-11CF-B6D1-00AA00BBBB58} to HKCU\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{ F414C260-6AC0-11CF-B6D1-00AA00BBBB58}OLD
Try installing Onfolio
One of these things should allow the jscript runtime to execute correctly, and should let Onfolio's installation continue successfully.
If anyone out there reads this and gives it a try, let us know how it worked out by posting on the comments below! ![]()
Charles, I am happily running OnFolio Add-In for Windows Live Toolbar v.3.0 Beta 2 (3.0.0.91), and have been for since ... it was released?
After installing Vista Ultimate (direct upgrade via DVD), I had to re-install OnFolio, but that went off without a hitch.
Looking at your notes above, do I really want to upgrade to the new version, or **do I want to wait until the next release?**
When it comes to beta testing (or even alpha testing), I have no problem, as I've been heavily involved, for companies, doing just that for many years in private betas, as well as public betas.
Actually, I will install it later tonight or tomorrow. I will let Norton Ghost finish making its third complete round of daily backups of all my drives, then install it. If there is any major issue, I can always roll back, knowing I have all my files, including OnFolio, safely tucked away.

Sounds like you're running the latest version, so no need to change a thing!
