First look at Google Pack?
I can't get into Google pack either- I always get kicked out. That said, if the below is accurate, what an interesting set of applications in the pack. I can't say that looking at the list I'm too impressed just yet. Particularly when most of the software appears to be someone else's or a rehash of their already released software. It will be interesting to see if this early diagnosis is really that accurate once I get a real look...
Some people have reported being able to download and install Google Pack, the eclectic bundle of apps that Google announced today. I'm unable to get in, but one Italian blogger has posted a supposed screenshot of Google Updater (Babelfish translation here), an app that downloads and installs the Google Pack apps and (I assume) keep them up-to-date. It looks pretty legit. Intriguingly included among the apps in the screenshot is "Google Pack Screensaver" and the post includes this English snippet from the (now inaccessible) Google Pack site: "The version of Norton Antivirus in the Google Pack includes 6 months of protection updates that enable the program to identify and remove new threats. If you’d like to continue receiving these updates after 6 months, you’ll need to purchase an update subscription from Symantec. Purchasing a subscription is optional."

Windows Vista December 2005 CTP (Build 5270) Review
I have to admit that as I take a spin through this review, and in particular, when I take a closer look at the many screen shots, I get very excited to get Vista running! I can still remember first running NT 4.0 Beta- as my main OS. When did I become so conservative that I am still running XP when I could be running Vista?!

Music: Iron & Wine
I was IM'ing with a friend a few weeks back and lamenting the absence of excellent new music. She turned me on to a band called 'Iron & Wine', which I have now spent several weeks listening to. I can report that this is someone worth paying attention to, in particular their album 'The Creek Drank the Cradle'. It's great music for a cold and cloudy winter day.
As a side note, when I googled 'Iron & WIne' I was rewarded with Google knowing that this was music, and offering me a music specific results page as an option. How far have we come from the days when Alta Vista was considered brilliant because the results weren't just awful? How important will metadata / structured data on the web become for searching, internet shopping, and more? How about this- _very_, on both counts.

Rumor alert: Google to sell Google PCs at Wal-Mart
What a wild turn of events that would be- can't imagine that it is true, though...
The LA Times' Sallie Hofmeister has published her business predictions for the new year, and there's a lot of interesting speculation among them, but most interesting is this tidbit: "Sources say Google has been in negotiations with Wal-Mart Stores Inc., among other retailers, to sell a Google PC." Of course this isn't the first talk of a Google-branded computer, and if anyone could pull it off it would be Google. Hofmeister speculates that Larry Page will use his keynote at CES this Friday to announce the Google PC. Me, I'm not holding my breath, but I will definitely be watching.
